From the iconic Cable Beach to the World Heritage listed Purnululu National Park, Australia’s North West offers visitors a true wilderness experience. The far north region of WA is a popular destination for West Australians chasing warmth during the April to October months, known as the dry season.
During this period, thousands of visitors head north for the busy tourism period in the Kimberley and Pilbara regions when the rain ends and the area re-opens to visitors. Popular with interstate visitors and working holidaymakers, the main towns of Broome and Kununurra offer numerous flight connections.

Following TRA's change to the new DoTS system at the start of 2025 the first year of data has been reviewed and changes made affecting inter- and intrastate expenditure as well as backcast estimates for 2019-2024. Further information can be found here.
Domestic and total spend cannot be reliably reported prior to 2025 and are therefore only shown for 2025 onwards. See the Tourism Research Australia website for more info on the methodology change.

Each factsheet is based on data from Tourism Research Australia, who publish visitor statistics for certain Australia LGAs. Not all factsheets have been updated for 2025 due to small sample sizes.
Regional Development Commission fact sheets
Beyond our five main tourism regions, we have developed insights into the Regional Development Commissions areas across Western Australia. Each factsheet includes information on visitor numbers, where these visitors come from, how much they spend and more destination insights. Updated each calendar year, the fact sheets are based on data from Tourism Research Australia's Domestic Tourism Statistics collection and International Visitor Survey.
