New domestic tourism statistics collection

Tourism Research Australia (TRA) has changed the way they measure domestic visitor movements, including day trips, intrastate and interstate travel. The new system is called the Domestic Tourism Statistics collection, or DoTS, and replaces the National Visitor Survey (NVS).

The new DoTS system is an exciting development as it represents a more modern way to understand the WA visitor economy and will help Tourism WA deliver better outcomes for the tourism industry and wider state economy.

The changed approach came into effect in January 2025 and was first reflected in visitor data for the March quarter of 2025. To understand the change and how it affects you, access our webinar below or find out more in our FAQs.
