Many West Australians journey through Australia’s Golden Outback on business trips, visiting the farming regions of the Wheatbelt, Gascoyne and Goldfields, while also enjoying the unique landscapes and wondrous dark-sky tourism offerings.

Following TRA's change to the new DoTS system at the start of 2025 the first year of data has been reviewed and changes made affecting inter- and intrastate expenditure as well as backcast estimates for 2019-2024. Further information can be found here.
Domestic and total spend cannot be reliably reported prior to 2025 and are therefore only shown for 2025 onwards. See the Tourism Research Australia website for more info on the methodology change.

Local Government Area fact sheets
Learn more about Australia’s Golden Outback through Tourism WA’s Local Government Area (LGA) factsheets. Updated annually, the factsheets detail visitor numbers for key areas, length of visitor stay, visitor spend and other key insights. The factsheets are based on data from Tourism Research Australia, who publish visitor statistics for certain Australia LGAs. Due to the data structure within DoTS, the 2025 factsheets have been produced for a combination of LGAs. More detail can be found within the individual factsheets.

Regional Development Commission fact sheets
Beyond our five main tourism regions, we have developed insights into the Regional Development Commissions areas across Western Australia. Each factsheet includes information on visitor numbers, where these visitors come from, how much they spend and more destination insights. Updated each calendar year, the fact sheets are based on data from Tourism Research Australia's Domestic Tourism Statistics collection and International Visitor Survey.
