The WA Government acknowledges that cruising is critical to the WA tourism sector, and injects  hundreds of millions of dollars into the state's economy. 

Cruise shipping helps visitors to experience different regions of the Dream State and showcases WA's unique onshore attractions that are accessible from our  11 port destinations, each offering distinct tourism experiences - from swimming with whale sharks in Exmouth to visiting the National Anzac Centre in Albany.

The state's mediterranean climate in the south,  and tropical climate in the north,  also means WA can support cruise ship visits all year round.

Since 2012, Tourism WA has invested in a range of targeted activities, with the aim of building  Western Australia's cruise tourism sector. 

A key focus of these initiatives is to  raise the awareness of WA's cruise destinations, cruise line attraction, landside shore excursion development, building the capacity of regional tour guides and volunteers, as well as identifying marine infrastructure challenges.

The WA Government, through Tourism WA, has committed significant resources towards initiatives to sustainably develop cruise tourism in Western Australia, including the release of the Western Australian Cruise Tourism Strategic Plan 2023-2033

Tourism WA is set to implement this strategy with the aim of growing economic and employment outcomes for Western Australia.

This will be achieved by securing new cruise lines to visit the state; expanding the itineraries of existing cruise ships already visiting the state; and by attracting more seasonal home-ported vessels to call Fremantle home.  




Recent research into our key global tourism markets indicate that the worldwide appeal of Western Australia continues to increase, as a dream holiday destination offering once-in-a-lifetime and unforgettable experiences.
  
Western Australia’s global tourism brand – Walking On A Dream – promotes this ‘spirit of adventure’ and captures the inspirational and aspirational nature of our state, and will supported the continued growth of the cruise industry in Western Australia.
