Tourism WA hosts media that have confirmed stories to be published about Western Australia’s breadth of visitor experiences.

The lead time for coverage can be almost immediate or drawn out to align with an agreed edition or publication date. For example, hosting social media influencers usually yields coverage for Western Australia while they are here exploring the state, whereas a story in a travel magazine won’t be published for many months after the visit. Quite often, hosting one media visit will lead to multiple stories over an extended period of time.

Visit the Public Relations page for examples of international media coverage.

Trade Famils Coverage

Results from a trade famil are measured differently to that of a media visit. Trade famils are often linked to incentives for agents to sell Western Australian holidays in alignment with a campaign, or to educate them before a campaign is launched. In this instance, the booking of WA experiences before or after the famil is key.

Other outcomes include the contracting of new products and an opportunity to hear straight from the trade partners how they perceive the suitability of an experience for their clients. For example, in September 2018, Tourism WA hosted the Operations Manager from All Blacks Tours to identify appropriate accommodation product for a March – June campaign to drive visitation for the Bledisloe Cup in August 2019.

Tourism WA surveys all trade famil delegates to gauge feedback on the products experienced and understanding of WA and its regions. This allows us to constantly ensure that the best quality famils are being developed in collaboration with the international teams working on campaigns with key distribution partners.
