Who can participate?
A tourism business is defined as working in one of the eight following categories Accommodation, Tour, Hire, Transport, Attraction, Restaurant, Retail and Event and must meet the criteria based on the following definitions before subscribing to the WA Tourism Network.
Accommodation
An accommodation establishment is a place offering accommodation for leisure tourists. The accommodation buisness must cater for the leisure-tourism market and provide accommodation that is bookable on a nightly, weekly, mid-week or weekend basis.
All accommodation properties must be categoriesd into one of the standard ATDW sub accommodation types including: Apartment, Backpacker and Hostel, Bed and Breakfast, Cabins and Cottage, Caravan and Camping, Farmstay, Holiday House, Hotel, Motel, Resort, Retreat, Self Contained and Wilderness Safari Retreat.
Tour
A tour company offers organised excursions with a guide and commentary. It may vary in duration from less than a day to one day or extended touring. The tour business must cater for the leisure-tourism market. It may also include tourist tuition providers such as surfing schools, sailing schools, wine appreciation classes at a vineyard. Tourist tuition businesses must provide a leisure-tourism experience of significant appeal to tourists.
All tour companies must be categorised into one of the standard ATDW tour types including: Full Day, Extended, Half Day or Less, Night and Tailored.
Hire
A hire company provides products or services that are hired for a specific period of time and can be used or operatored by the leisure tourist.
All hire companies must be categorised into one of the standard ATDW hire types including: Bicycle, Boat, Campervan and Motorhome, Car, Equipment, Four Wheel Drive, Houseboat, Minibuses and Coach, Motorcycle and Yacht.Bicycle, Boat, Campervan and Motorhome, Car, Equipment, Four Wheel Drive, Houseboat, Minibuses and Coach, Motorcycle and Yacht.
Transport
A transport company provides point to point travel / transfers for the leisure tourist.
All transport companies must be categorised into one of the standard ATDW transport types including: Air Service, Coach Service, Ferry Service, Rail Service and Hotel or Airport Transfers.
Attraction (including Restaurants and Retail Outlets)
A tourist attraction is a particular place or area of interest to a leisure tourist and;
is static and has a distinct boundary
Offers a unique, distinct experience reflecting the area in which it is located
Is open and or accessible most days of the year, with regular opening and or access hours
Can be free to enter of have an admission fee
This category also includes restaurants and retail outlets where leisure-tourism forms a significant part of the business.
All attractions must be categorised into one of the standard ATDW attraction types including: Amusement/Theme Parks, Dining and Eating Out, Entertainment, Gallery, Markets, Observations/Planetariums, Shopping, Spas and Retreats, Sport and Recreation Facilities, Wineries, Vineyards, Breweries, Zoos, Sanctuaries, Aquariums and Wildlife Parks.
