Tourism 2020 - A Chance to Have Your Say

What is the Tourism 2020 project?

Tourism 2020 has been commissioned by the Board of Tourism Western Australia to seek the views and opinions of the people of Western Australia into the type of tourism industry they want to see develop in WA in the long-term.

Over the past 20 years in WA the tourism industry has grown substantially and now employs about six per cent of the work force and provides viral economic stimulus to rural and regional communities.

It is, however, now time to look ahead to 2020 and beyond.

It’s time for a discussion on how we should share our home with visitors in the future.

How many visitors do we want?

How will we preserve our natural environment to future-proof our industry?

What processes do we need to put in place to ensure that our visitors have a truly memorable experience?

What amenities and facilities do we need to ensure that our families continue to enjoy the great Western Australian holiday?

What sort of memories do we want our children and grandchildren to have of their holidays?

A discussion paper has been prepared and a series of state-wide consultative workshops are being held to gather as many ideas as possible into a final strategy.

We are asking you to become involved to help us determine what is important, what needs to change, what innovations we can introduce, how we can capitalise on our already magnificent tourism attractions, and what it will take to become recognised world-wide as a global leader in sustainability and conservation, ecotourism, Indigenous tourism, and innovation.

We want the tourism world to sit up and take notice of Western Australia, but we cannot do it – and expect the best possible outcomes – without your participation.
