The focus is all about future-proofing the Western Australian tourism industry.

So that we can debate and discuss the primary components of the future of tourism we have separated the issues into several categories:

  1. Aboriginal tourism experiences: many of our visitors want an authentic Aboriginal tourism experience, and there is great potential for tourism to provide more options for Aboriginal communities.

  2. Sustaining our natural assets:  tourism provides a focus for protecting and enhancing our unique lifestyle and environment;

  3. Product innovation: ensuring that tourism product keeps up-to-date or exceeds other tourism offerings from competitive destinations.

  4. Service quality: The quality of what we offer to our visitors is of paramount importance – our service must be something different and rare.

  5. What customers we want: do we want lots more visitors at any cost? Or should we concentrate on high yielding visitors, what will encourage locals to take more holidays in their own state, and what niche markets should our marketing be focused on?

  6. Regional dispersal:  where should be concentrate infrastructure, investment and marketing efforts to ensure that our visitors travel widely in the regions?

  7. Making Perth a sought-after destination: What sort of adjustment does Perth need to make to keep up with its competitors, what about the surrounding precincts, such as Fremantle, our beaches, the Swan Valley and Mandurah?

  8. Partnerships: this area is probably the most important catalyst for determining the future success of the WA tourism industry.  It is crucial that industry operators and business owners, government agencies and communities work together establishing a collaborative culture to ensure that we provide visitors with a quality experience.
