Tourism WA commissioned TRC Tourism to investigate management options for a growing coastal cruise sector along the Kimberley coast.

The Kimberley coast is an iconic regional attraction which boasts an extraordinary coastal landscape and varied natural and cultural assets.

The TRC study was undertaken in 2013 as part of the Kimberley Science and Conservation Strategy, and in recognition of the coast and its importance  to the Kimberley as one of Australia’s National Landscapes.  It was jointly funded by the State and Commonwealth governments.

The study assesses the requirement for additional tourism related infrastructure on the Kimberley coast and examines the prospects of, and concerns around, introducing a permit system and access fees for cruise operators landing on shore.
