Tourism WA supports the revitalisation of town precincts as a way of untapping the tourism potential of destinations, maximising the use of existing assets and stimulating major private investment in complementary tourism infrastructure.
Precinct re-development often involves the transformation of existing buildings into new uses. Tourism can offer an attractive new use for a public building, bringing life and vibrancy to the area. Heritage buildings in particular are attractive assets for a tourism developer, as long as the conversion costs are not too high.
Tourism WA liaises with a range of government agencies including Landcorp, East Perth Redevelopment Authority, Department of Planning , Heritage Council of WA and local government to maximise the development of major precinct re-development projects.
