Tourism's growth in Western Australia was fuelled by the development of modern aircraft. Improving air access to Perth and regional WA centres will continue to play a major part in tourism development throughout the state.
Tourism WA's aviation director liaises with the major airlines to encourage more international and domestic air links into Western Australia.
Appropriate airport infrastructure is a basic requirement to attract suitable airline services. The Department of Planning supports the development of regional air access through schemes such as the Regional Airports Development Scheme (RADS), and the state's ongoing support of subsidised and regulated air routes.
The RADS scheme is an annual funding program that is open to regional airports that wish to enhance their airport facilities. Tourism WA sits on an evaluation committee for funding applications.
