Upgraded website to market Western Australia to Japan
04 February 2008
Tourism Western Australia today launched a new look Japanese version of its consumer website, westernaustralia.com.
Tourism WA’s Acting Executive Director, Ms Kelly MacLean said with more than 68 percent of Japanese people actively using online facilities, websites were a vital tool to market WA to a larger international audience.
“Japan is ranked fourth in our international visitor markets, with Japanese visitors spending $104 million in the State last year,” Ms MacLean said.
“Providing and promoting online information in Japanese makes the State even more accessible and appealing to one of our top tourism markets.”
Ms MacLean said the previous Japanese website attracted almost 90,000 unique visitors last year, but the new updated website, with prominent links from australia.com, was expected to attract even more in 2008.
“The Japanese market is attracted to Western Australia’s unspoilt natural surroundings, marine life, relaxed lifestyle and World Heritage Areas. Japanese travellers to WA are also keen to gain a deeper understanding of local culture and history, and get ‘under the skin’ of WA,” she said.
“The new website will display a range of stunning imagery and showcase our iconic experiences to Japanese consumers, as well as assist them in planning their holiday to Western Australia.”
Ms MacLean said the Japanese site was the second of eight Tourism WA foreign language sites that would be offered in the new look and linked to Tourism Australia’s new australia.com site by June 2008.
“Tourism WA is working with Tourism Australia to make sure our State continues to have a strong global presence online,” she said.
“All of Tourism WA’s new look foreign language websites will form part of the new australia.com network, which started with the German website in September 2007, followed by this Japanese site, with the new Traditional Chinese, French and Italian sites arriving in early 2008.”
The Japanese website can be found at http://westernaustralia.com/jp.
