Commonwealth Games gold medallist Geoff Huegill and world championship sprint star Matthew Abood joined WA swimmers Craig Tucker and Bobby Jovanovich at Challenge Stadium to mark one year to go until the start of the BHP Billiton Aquatic Super Series.
The super series will see the Australian swim team take on the Chinese and South African national teams in a world-class program of events that will thrill spectators and national and international television viewers alike.
It will be the biggest international aquatic competition held in Western Australia since the 1998 FINA World Championships.
As well as a world-class program of pool events, the series will include two international water polo matches and a series of elite and mass participation open-water races, delivering Perth and Western Australia with a unique and iconic international aquatic event.
In addition, an extensive community engagement program will take place, featuring regional clinics and events to give people in regional WA the chance to get involved in swimming and water polo.
The BHP Billiton Aquatic Super Series is a partnership between the WA Government through Eventscorp and Royalties for Regions, BHP Billiton, Swimming Australia, Australian Water Polo, Swimming Western Australia and Western Australian Water Polo.
The inaugural series will be held from January 18-20, 2013. For more information on the BHP Billiton Aquatic Super Series visit http://www.aquaticsuperseries.com.au/.
