Australian Tourism Accreditation Program (ATAP)

Accredited Business logo

Tourism Accreditation is a business development tool, based on Quality Assurance principles, designed to establish and continually improve industry standards.

The ATAP is an Australia wide, online, quality management program, which documents businesses practices and procedures. The accreditation ‘tick’ logo provides a credible, third party recommendation of your tourism business.  In Western Australia the program is delivered by Tourism Council WA.

The Program addresses many of the issues that are covered in the development of a business plan but focuses on those key elements that are part of the day to day function of any tourism operation.  The program assists in the development of professional management systems that will lead to reliability, consistency and predictability in the operation of the business, which in turn result in improved customer service and satisfaction.

The ATAP encourages a business to plan how their business will function and check that customer expectations are being met.The program is broken down into 14 assessable sections, as follows:

  • Business details
  • Licences and permits
  • Insurance details
  • Marketing plan
  • Customer service
  • Business operating systems
  • Human resource management
  • Risk managment
  • Economic sustainability / financial systems
  • Environmental management
  • Social / cultural sustainability
  • Business plan
  • Continuous improvement
  • Code of practice / code of ethics

Tourism Western Australia encourages operators to become accredited under the ATAP, or another Tourism Accreditation Australia approved accreditation program.  Fees are based on the number of full time equivalent staff employed by the business, starting from $259 per year.
