As part of the 2011/12 State Budget, the Western Australian Government announced new event funding of $40 million over four years, through Royalties for Regions, to fund a Regional Events Program for events across regional Western Australia.
The Regional Events Program will comprise two key elements:
1. The Regional Events Program for medium to large major events requesting event funding over $50,000 per event.
The Regional Events Program funding intends to attract and develop major events that will generate state-wide, national and international attention to regional Western Australia. These events are intended to deliver significant benefits to the regional communities in which they are hosted. These events will also generate strong community engagement and participation, high levels of intrastate visitation and national media attention.
The funding requests are administered on a case-by-case basis and can be submitted at any time. Event holders will be required to submit an event proposal addressing the Evaluation Funding Criteria (Download the
Regional Events Program Evaluation Criteria.pdf 221KB). A rigorous event assessment and approval process will be conducted by Eventscorp and the Department of Regional Development and Lands for all event proposals.
2. The Regional Events Scheme for smaller events requesting event funding under $50,000 per event.
The Regional Events Scheme (RES) is an existing scheme run by Eventscorp. Royalties for Regions funding has provided funding to enhance RES for 2011/12 through to 2014/15. It is an annual competitive funding scheme providing opportunities for event holders to seek sponsorship funding for events in regional Western Australia.
Event holders seeking funding of up to $50,000 are encouraged to view the Regional Events Scheme page.
Eventscorp and the Department of Regional Development and Lands have announced an extraordinary one-off round for the RES, thanks to funding from Royalties for Regions.
Funding of up to $300,000 is available for events that fall between January 1, 2012 and December 31, 2012. Funding amounts of between $5,000 and $50,000 per event can be requested. RES is administered via an application process with strict deadlines. Applications are reviewed based on criteria and compared against each other.
This extraordinary one-off round is intended for event holders who currently do not have sponsorship agreements with Eventscorp/Department of Regional Development and Lands.
Royalties for Regions is a long-term vision for Western Australia, one that recognises that the sustainable development of regional Western Australia is vital to the State’s future.
It is a plan for the whole of Western Australia, with a focus on building communities in regional areas through six policy objectives:
