In a State as large and diverse as WA, tourism is a vital industry for regional areas as it delivers significant economic benefits.

Increasing visitors to regional WA is an important component of our strategy.

One key to improving regional tourism is ensuring industry offers quality tourism products that align with our Experience Extraordinary message. Opportunities also exist for government and industry to work together to develop extraordinary regional experiences such as nature-based and culinary tourism.

Developing a diverse regional events calendar will also help increase regional travel. Regional events not only provide an economic boost but add vibrancy to regional areas, ignite a sense of community pride and raise the profile of the region through media exposure.

Improved caravan, camping and self-drive experiences have been identified as a key priority for boosting regional tourism. Tourism WA, together with other government agencies and industry, is implementing the WA Caravan and Camping Action Plan 2014-2018.

In addition, Tourism WA, in partnership with the Cruise WA Committee and industry, is proactively pursuing opportunities to capitalise on the growth of the cruise sector through the Western Australian Cruise Shipping Strategic Plan 2012-2020.
