Construction has started on the first Camping with Custodians campground in the Pilbara, at Peedamulla Station near Onslow.

Peedamulla Station is a 220,000ha Aboriginal-owned pastoral station which runs from the North West Coastal Highway to the coast.

The station is home to a collection of heritage-listed buildings and structures – one of which is being restored for use as the campground reception.

The nature-based campground will contain both powered and unpowered sites, gas barbeques, hot water showers and flushing toilets.

In keeping with the Camping with Custodians model, visitors to Peedamulla will be able to engage with Aboriginal custodians, and learn about traditional customs and life on a pastoral station.

Construction at Peedamulla campground is expected to be completed in August 2017.
